WILL I BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE VIRTUALLY?

We are excited to get back to in-person racing, so we will not have a standalone virtual race this year. 

Interested in virtual options for 2022?

– You will be able to participate virtually in the 2022 Indianapolis Monumental Mile if you register for Road to Lady Victory – A Monumental Challenge. Click HERE to learn more about Road to Lady Victory.
– Register for Marathon in a Month to complete 26.2 miles – in increments – during the month of November.

HOW DO I REGISTER AND CAN I REGISTER OTHER PEOPLE?

You will be able to register yourself and others online starting on March 1, 2022, through noon ET on September 29, 2022, subject to availability. You can register other participants as part of your registration by selecting “I want to add another registration”.

Register onsite at the Expo and Packet Pickup on September 30, 2022.

WHAT DOES MY PARTICIPATION IN THIS EVENT SUPPORT?

Beyond Monumental is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Proceeds from Beyond Monumental events support the Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement, a seven-to-nine-week youth running program that culminates with students running a 5K. The bi-weekly program focuses on engaging and educating youth about the benefits of physical fitness and healthy living. You can find more information about our beneficiaries here!

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EVENT?

Half Marathon participants must be 10 years of age or older on race day.

There is no minimum age requirement for the 5K. We encourage parents to register children age 6 and younger for the Kids One Mile Fun Run.

WHY DO I NEED TO LOG IN TO AN ACCOUNT OR CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT WHEN I REGISTER FOR A BEYOND MONUMENTAL EVENT?

Beyond Monumental is pleased to partner with haku to manage registration for our events. You can use the same login and password to create accounts with multiple race organizers and access all of your available registrations in one place. Beyond Monumental only has access to information that is associated with our events.

If you registered for a 2020 or 2021 Beyond Monumental race in haku you can use your existing login and password.

If you haven’t registered for a Beyond Monumental race in haku you will need to create a Beyond Monumental participant account when you register.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION?

The deadline for online registration for the Indy Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids One Mile Run is September 29, 2022, at noon ET.

HOW CAN I GET CONFIRMATION OF MY REGISTRATION?

You will receive an email confirmation after you complete your registration. You can also log in to your Beyond Monumental participant account to access your registration confirmation(s).

WHAT IF I ENTERED THE WRONG INFORMATION WHEN I REGISTERED OR I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE SOMETHING ON MY REGISTRATION?

Log in to your Beyond Monumental participant account to update your information. Email our team at info@beyondmonumental.org with questions or if you need help.

MAY I UPGRADE OR DOWNGRADE MY SELECTED EVENT?

Log in to your BEYOND MONUMENTAL PARTICIPANT ACCOUNT to upgrade to the Half Marathon or downgrade to the 5K, subject to availability. You are required to pay the price difference to upgrade your race registration. We do not offer refunds to downgrade your race registration.

You may upgrade/downgrade your race registration online until 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

WHAT IS THE CUTOFF DATE TO CUSTOMIZE THE NAME ON MY RACE BIB?

You must be registered for the Half Marathon and 5K by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, to customize the name on your race bib. 

Your name will not be custom printed on your race bib if you register or modify your race registration after the deadline.

MAY I TRANSFER MY RACE REGISTRATION TO SOMEONE ELSE?

Yes, you may transfer your registration until 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. There is a $20.00 fee to transfer a registration. 

Log in to your BEYOND MONUMENTAL PARTICIPANT ACCOUNT and select the “Transfer an Existing Entry to a New Registrant” option. You will receive a transfer code via email to give to the new participant to transfer into the race.

MAY I GET A REFUND FOR MY ENTRY?

No refunds will be issued for any reason. This is a standard industry policy and is not unique to our event.

WHAT IF THE EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC?

Beyond Monumental will continue to implement recommended health & safety precautions to host in-person races. 

Registered participants will be able to choose one of the following options – based on when the event cancellation occurs – if the 2022 Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben is canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic: 

If the event is canceled prior to April 30, 2022, participants may choose to have their race registration fee:
– Refunded in full, less any processing fees
– Converted from in-person registration to virtual registration*
– Deferred to 2023 event registration (no extra fee to participate in 2023)
– Donated to support APEX Benefits Monumental Kids Movement

If the event is canceled May 1, 2022–August 15, 2022, participants may choose to have their race registration fee:
– Refunded 50%, less any processing fees
– Converted from in-person registration to virtual registration*
– Forfeited to support Beyond Monumental and receive 50% off 2023 registration fee
– Donated to support APEX Benefits Monumental Kids Movement

If the event is canceled August 16, 2022–Race Week, all race registrations will be converted to virtual race registrations.

*All registrations converted from in-person race registration to virtual race registration will be refunded the difference between the in-person race registration fee and the registration fee of the corresponding virtual race, less any applicable processing fees.

CAN I DEFER MY ENTRY?

Registrations for the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben, 5K, and Kids One Mile Run are non-refundable. We offer deferrals to the 2023 event with proof of injury, pregnancy, or military deployment. The deferral fee is $20.00. 

Please submit your supporting doctor’s note or proof of deployment to info@beyondmonumental.org by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

To remain fair and consistent, deferrals do not extend to anyone besides the injured, pregnant, or deployed participant.

DO YOU OFFER A MILITARY OR FIRST RESPONDER DISCOUNT?

Beyond Monumental is honored to offer a discount to active U.S. Military members and their immediate family members, U.S. Military veterans and their immediate family members, and active and retired first responders (law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, and emergency management officials) and their immediate family members. Qualified individuals can receive a 10 percent (10%) discount off the price at the time of registration. 

Email a copy of your or your immediate family member’s military or work photo ID or DD214 to info@beyondmonumental.org to request the discount.

IS THERE AN APP FOR THE RACE?

Yes, we will have an app for the race. We will provide details in pre-event participant emails and you can check back for more details in September.

WHAT TIME ZONE IS INDIANAPOLIS?

Eastern Time Zone – Indianapolis uses Eastern Standard Time (EST) during the winter months and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) in the summer months when Daylight Saving Time is in force.

WILL YOU BE REQUIRING VACCINATIONS, TEMP CHECKS, OR HEALTH SCREENINGS?

At this time, participants will not be required to submit proof of vaccination nor will they be required to submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Prior to and on race day, we ask that any participants or spectators experiencing a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms of illness stay or go home for the safety of themselves and others in the community. We encourage anyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP MY PACKET?

Yes. They must present the email that includes your assigned race bib number or a copy of your government-issued photo ID. Digital or printed copies of the email and government-issued photo ID are acceptable for Packet Pickup.

WILL I BE ABLE TO PICK UP MY PACKET ON RACE DAY?

No, there will be no race day Packet Pickup.

WHAT IS ‘KILL THE HILL’ AND HOW DO I COMPETE?

The Kill the Hill challenge can be found along the half marathon course between miles 10 and 11. It is a ~320-meter segment that starts around Delaware Lake and follows Harrison Trace Trail east uphill. There will be timing mats at the start and end of this segment for participants to show off their speed. Awards will be given to the top finishers in the Youth, Open, and Masters divisions.

Overall winners and age group winners are not eligible to win the Kill the Hill awards as well.

HOW WILL THE START AREA AND WAVES WORK ON RACE MORNING?

The Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben and Indy Half 5K at Fort Ben will use six start waves *. What does a wave start mean?

– The start will be broken into five separate “waves” of participants, based on expected finish times provided during registration.
– You are allowed to move into a wave farther back from your assigned wave if you would like to start with a person in a different wave. You cannot move forward to a different wave. ​
– To qualify for the preferred start for Wave A, participants must submit a link to a verifiable result run in 2021 or 2022. The deadline to submit proof of time is 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, September 2, 2022.
– The event is chip timed so your official time will remain unaffected.

WILL EACH RACE BE CERTIFIED?

The Indy Half Marathon and 5K are both USATF certified courses.

– Half Marathon certification number: IN13044TDK
– 5K course certification number: IN09001TDK

All USATF COMPETITION RULES apply.

IS THERE A TIME LIMIT FOR THE HALF MARATHON?

The time limit to complete the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben is four hours. Participants must maintain a pace of approximately 18:00 per mile.

To ensure the safety of all participants, any participant not maintaining this pace will be asked to retire from the event and be taken back to the race site on an event vehicle.

CAN I CONTINUE RUNNING ON THE COURSE IF I DON’T COMPLETE THE RACE PRIOR TO COURSE CLOSURE?

Continuing on the course after course closure is at your own risk. You will be asked by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to move off the streets to allow for vehicle traffic. No times are recorded after 12:00 p.m. for the half marathon. Finisher medals will be awarded only to those finishing within the specified time limit.

WILL THERE BE A SPLIT MAT IN THE HALF MARATHON?

Yes, there will be a 10K split mat.

CAN I LEAVE THE COURSE AND COME BACK?

No. You will be disqualified if you leave the course.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I COMPLETE A DIFFERENT RACE DISTANCE THAN MY REGISTERED RACE DISTANCE?

You will be disqualified and you will not appear in the race results.

WHAT ITEMS ARE REQUIRED ON THE COURSE?

You must wear your race bib at all times.

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND/OR NOT RECOMMENDED ON THE COURSE?

You WILL NOT be allowed to participate with animals, bicycles, baby joggers, strollers, roller skates, inline skates, or any other wheeled devices.

We recommend you do not wear a headset so you can hear important information along the course.

WILL I RECEIVE A FINISHER MEDAL?

You will receive a finisher medal if you complete the Half Marathon or 5K before the courses close. You will not receive a finisher medal if you complete the race after the course closure or if you do not complete the race.

WILL THE INDY HALF MARATHON AT FORT BEN HAVE PACERS?

Yes. Paces covered will be, at a minimum: 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, and 3:55.

Other paces may be available based on the number of available pacers and estimated finish times for the field.

WHERE WILL WATER BE AVAILABLE?

For the half marathon, water stops are located at miles 2, 4, 5.5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and finish.

For the 5K there is one water stop around 1.5 miles.

WILL ENERGY GELS BE AVAILABLE ON THE COURSE?

Yes, energy gels will be available on the half marathon course near mile 8.4.

HOW MANY RESTROOMS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE COURSE?

Port-o-lets will be available on the course, approximately every three miles. You will also pass Fort Harrison State Park restroom facilities several times while inside the park.

We ask that you please be kind and courteous to the Indianapolis residents and neighborhoods.

WHAT IF I NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION DURING THE RACE?

Medical personnel will be stationed on the course to provide medical assistance.

For medical emergencies, an ambulance will be called to transport the participant to a local hospital. The participant is responsible for any medical transportation fees. ​

IMPORTANT: It is recommended that you write any medical conditions, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts on the backside of your race bib. You must wear your race bib at all times during the event.

COULD BAD WEATHER OR OTHER CONDITIONS CANCEL THE RACE?

Extreme weather (such as lightning, high winds, snow, ice, extreme temperature, etc.) could cause the event to be canceled. There are also instances of other emergency situations (such as power outages, city-wide alerts, etc.) that could affect the start, continuance, and/or completion of the event or select races. We will provide updates about event/race delay(s) or cancellation(s) as quickly as possible through Facebook, Twitter, and our event website.

WHAT HAPPENS IF EXTREME WEATHER HAPPENS DURING THE EVENT?

If extreme weather or an emergency situation becomes an issue, the Command Group will meet and determine the status/future of the event. Depending on the situation, the event may be delayed or canceled. Information will be relayed to the race committee. Participants will be notified along the course by course monitors and race officials. Participants will be required to use their best judgment, based on the situation, as to the next best course of action.

IF THE RACE IS CANCELED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER WILL REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS BE ALLOWED?

There will be no refunds or transfers should the event be canceled due to extreme weather or other emergencies. For additional cancellation information, please review the COVID-19 Cancellation policy.

WHAT ARE THE AWARDS FOR EACH AGE GROUP?

HALF MARATHON AGE DIVISIONS – Top three male and female in each age group by chip time. 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over

5K AGE DIVISIONS – Top three male and female in each age group by chip time. 11 & under, 12-15, 16-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over

HOW CAN I CHECK MY RESULTS?

There are many different ways to check your results after you finish. Visit the Results Tent to receive a print out of your finish time and your splits. 

You may also view your results at www.indyhalfmarathon.com.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL AWARDS BE DISTRIBUTED?

Age group awards will be available onsite at the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben. Be sure to hang out and enjoy the Post Race Celebration to see if you receive an age group award! 

You must pick up your age group award at the Results & Awards Tent on Race Day.

WHERE CAN I WATCH THE RACE?

The start and finish area is a great place to watch the race and you can easily get to 56th street to see the participants as they come down the street at mile 4.5.
